Question by electrove: Do anti-age products work on teenagers?
I’m 17, my eyes are saggy and I was wondering if I used an anti-aging substance like “lift gel” or “tightening lotion” or something like that (which some are “anti-aging”), would it have the opposite affect or would it work the way it is supposed to like on a middle-aged person with similar skin conditions?
No, I sleep plenty. It’s not too much sleep either. It’s just the way my eyes are and I want it to look better.
But WHY would it cause the opposite affect? …thank you

When you looked in the mirror this morning did you wonder whether it was time to start using anti aging skin care products? Maybe the face that was yawning back at you was a bit of a stranger. Or maybe she looked more like your mother than you ever realized. The question is: are you ready to slip gracefully into the skin of a middle aged woman, or do you want to cheat the hourglass for a few more years?

All around you are people who welcome their mid-life look as a natural part being alive. Age spots mixing in with freckles, crows feet showing up around the eyes, smile line gracing the cheeks – these can all be appreciated as a form of natural beauty. But is it right for you? For many women the answer is “No.”

Consider the fact that the beauty industry in America is a multi-billion dollar market. It builds upon a long-standing tradition of rejuvenation rituals and recipes. Napoleon’s wife Josephine treated her face with mashed potato cosmetic masks and hot camphor compresses to help keep her looking young. It only goes to show that anti aging skin care products do not have to be mysterious potions with exotic ingredients.

There are three general focus areas for improving your health, beauty, and youthful appearance. You know the first – it is exercise. But getting more active won’t help hide your crows feet. For that you will need to look at facial treatments or even cosmetic surgery.

A first, simple step in looking younger is to increase your daily walking. Even if your diet remains exactly the same, when you walk more you will gain energy, relieve stress, and just look and feel better. If you already walk, then maybe jog. If you already jog, then maybe start running. You get the idea.

You may also think about adding a few items to your regular facial treatment. Anti aging skin care products can be simple and inexpensive creams, natural oils and extracts, or complex chemical formulas. Prices will vary somewhere between very reasonable and extremely extravagant; ingredients will range between the common and the exotic. A visit to your local health and beauty supplier, or your favorite internet search engine, can help you sort out which items fit you best.

Cosmetic surgery is one possibility, as crows feet and sagging eyelids are no match for a talented professional! But remember that these treatments are medical procedures that may not be suitable to you for physical or financial reasons. Do enough research to be sure that surgery is the right answer if you go this route.

So there you have it – choices to help you look younger abound, whether through basic exercise, gentle anti aging skin care products, or complex cosmetic treatments. The worst choice that you can make is to procrastinate and put off making a decision, even if that decision is to accept your natural self just as you are.

If you could achieve the amazing, timeless look of your favorite film star celebrity just by using the right anti aging skin care product, would you hesitate? If Catherine Zeta-Jones were to tell you that she has a secret formula for keeping her phenomenal looks intact despite the passage of time, and that you could find it in your local department store, wouldn’t you be grabbing the car keys right about now? Of course you would! Until you realized that you were probably dreaming.

Now, imagine that you are a woman at the peak of her film career, commanding a six or seven digit salary, and that you have access to any beauty treatment or technique available to help you gain younger looking skin. What would your answer be in that scenario – a trip to the local department store, or maybe something a little more involved?

You might be one of the lucky people who can afford to use a top of the line anti aging skin care product. The rich and famous, whether film stars or oil field heiresses, are flocking to luxurious “boutique” dermatology treatments like “Murad,” named for its creator, Dr. Howard Murad, of Los Angeles. Not for every budget, designer dermatology creations can cost many hundreds of dollars per application.

But celebrity women are not the only people who are concerned about retaining younger looking skin. Famous men are also starting to jump in, particularly in industries like film and television where a recognizable and appealing look is a mainstay to success. Hollywood icon Brad Pitt is purported to be a fan of Hungarian dermatologist Ernie Lazlo’s brand of cosmetic treatment, as well as the occasional celebrity spa resculpting facial.

So is it all hype? What could be in these magic potions that would make them able to demand a higher cost than your average dinner for two? Were you to be able to inspect these items you would find many familiar facial friends: amino acids, vitamins, kelp extracts, etc. – nothing too far out of the ordinary ingredient list. Then there might start to be a few surprises, like a synthetic equivalent to the epidermal growth hormone found in the saliva of your favorite household pets.

This is not to say that adding exotic ingredients to an anti aging skin care product is solely reserved for high end buyers. If you check the label in your own favorite brand you might find synthetic snake venom peptide, purified snail slime, or bee mucous extract on the list.

Concocting eccentric secret formulas for creams or masks in the name of beauty also is not a new idea. The Habsburg Empress Sisi used ground slugs as part of her daily regimen to ensure younger looking skin in 19th century Austria. It is a tradition that extends to Cleopatra and the days of the Pharaohs, and undoubtedly much further back than that.

Whether or not you choose to partake, there will always be women (and men) around you using an anti aging skin care product as part of their quest for youth and physical beauty. Whether it comes with an exorbitant price tag, or a homemade recipe, will be a matter of marketing power and personal conscience.
