How to Make Your Own Facial Skin Care Products

There’s probably not a woman alive that doesn’t enjoy getting a professional, salon quality facial. Skin care today is a multi-billion dollar business, and this means not just the services of professionals but products you purchase over the counter at a pharmacy and at retail stores. Wanting to have glowing, radiant skin is common for many, and really, who would want it any other way? But with the cost of so many things skyrocketing these days, especially an expensive facial, skin care you can do from home by yourself is typically a much more favored option. How can you make your own products at home, and what’s the best way to use them?

There are some common ingredients in home facial skin care products, and these include avocado, cucumber, honey, oatmeal, green tea, and yogurt. Avocado and honey are very good for moisturizing the skin, while cucumber is rejuvenating and brightening. Oatmeal works to scrub away impurities and dead skin cells, and green tea works as an antioxidant to make your skin as healthy as possible. Cultures in yogurt also act to cleanse away those impurities, and yogurt makes a good base for these other products. So how can you know what to mix up and how much in order to make your own facial skin care masks and products?

You first need to ask yourself what your skin type is and what you need to accomplish with your facial skin care at home. Do you have very oily skin with blemishes? Oatmeal is going to be good for cleansing away that dirt and oil that is causing your breakouts. Avocado will replace your oils with some good moisturizers that won’t cause those breakouts. Usually just mashing up half of an avocado with some oatmeal and yogurt until it forms a paste is good enough. Your facial skin care products aren’t like real recipes where you need to get your measurements exact.

Many women know to use cucumber slices on the eyes when creating their own facial skin care products but you can mash cucumbers up into a mask for use on your whole face as well. You can add some honey and oatmeal or yogurt to this and you have a wonderful moisturizing and rejuvenating mask that will cleanse your skin and leave it looking toned and radiant. Try mixing up the ingredients of your own facial skin care products to see what works best on your skin. Most masks are left on the face for about 20 minutes before you simply wash them off with a warm, wet cloth. Taking care of yourself at home with your homemade facial skin care products and mixtures isn’t rocket science, but by knowing these basic ingredients and what they typically do for skin, you can easily make up your own masks and other facial skin care products. So why keep paying for those pricey salon visits when you can get great results at home?

Some Common Myths About Acne Skin Care

Posted by admin on April 23, 2008

It’s interesting how many people still have so many common misconceptions about facial blemishes, and especially about something like acne skin care. Not only do these misconceptions fail to actually treat acne the way it should be treated, they may actually be doing quite a bit of damage to their skin and making it worse. The good news is that acne skin care is not that difficult, if you know the real truth about what causes this skin condition and what you can do about it.

The cause of acne is pretty much well known by now. Dirt, oil, and other irritants settle in the pores and cause this irritation or eruption that we call a pimple or acne. This dirt can be from everyday pollutants and elements in the air; our skin exists to protect our innards from dirt so that’s why it settles there in the first place. However, good acne skin care is important especially for those who live or work in highly polluted environments, or who work someplace where their skin is going to get dirtier than average. This can include working in landscaping or manufacturing facilities where there is a lot of powder or other irritants and elements. If this sounds like you and you notice that your skin is especially dirty at the end of the day, acne skin care is going to be important to you.

The oil that gets into your pores is typically just the oil on your skin that is natural. We all have this, even though we often associate acne skin care with teenagers. It’s true that those who are teenaged typically have more oil on their skin just because their hormones are still a bit off balance, but even adults can have very oily skin that causes breakouts. For them, acne skin care is important as well.

Using harsh cleansers to strip your skin of these oils and clean out all that dirt is a common mistake that many make in what they think is good acne skin care. They typically think that because this dirt and these oils are causing their breakouts then they need to do everything possible to get rid of it. However, too much of a good thing can cause problems as well! When we use very harsh products or are rough with our skin, this is not good acne skin care as we can very well be irritating our skin into producing even more oil.

And not all breakouts and blemishes are caused by dirt and oil; this too is a common misconception when it comes to acne skin care. Sometimes very sensitive skin will breakout into blemishes when it is irritated by products that contain dyes, perfumes, or other elements. Sometimes even just a new product that your skin is not used to can cause breakouts! This is why it’s important to use gentle products when you cleanse and moisturize for your acne skin care.

Why Worry About Skin Care?

Posted by admin on April 22, 2008

If you’re like most people, you probably have some quick skin care routine at night that involves wiping your face with a wet washcloth before dropping into bed, and not much else. We rarely give serious consideration to how we take care of our skin and assume that those who have very nice tone and texture to their skin are just blessed.

In reality it’s actually a very good idea to think about our skin care routine as there is much that we can do to improve our skin tone and to prevent things such as blemishes and wrinkles, if we start early enough and follow this routine regularly. While sometimes our skin’s condition is just genetic and there are some things we can’t do much about, there are many problems we experience with breakouts and blemishes that can be avoided with a good skin care routine, and with making sure this routine is appropriate for our face and our skin in particular.

Some people go overboard when it comes to skin care and are overly rough or harsh when they cleanse, using soaps and cleansers that are just going to strip their skin of its natural oils and moisturizers. They may do this because they feel that if their skin is breaking out that this means they need to cleanse more or use stronger products. Actually, they could be doing a lot of damage to their skin and even causing these breakouts from cleansing too much. A good skin care routine means using products that are specifically designed for the face, and using them properly.

Moisturizing on a regular basis is also important for proper skin care. Sometimes when a person has oily skin they think they should skip this step but there are many areas on the face that don’t have oil glands on or near them, and these are the places that typically get wrinkles. This includes around the eyes and the mouth. Even if you have oily skin you should make regular moisturizing, especially in these areas, part of your skin care routine. If you fail to moisturize you could actually be causing your body to produce more oil as it does this when it feels the skin is too dry – those oil glands work harder to produce more oil and this clogs your pores. If you use a light moisturizer every day even in the areas that you think are already too oily as part of your regular skin care routine, you may notice that your skin becomes much more even and healthier.

Wrinkles are a fact of life, as are blemishes and other skin problems. Even with the best skin care routine you’ll probably have something you’ll need to deal with at one time or another. However, just like regular exercise and eating right are the best tools against obesity and weight gain, regular skin care is the best tool against serious problems with your skin, and for having healthy and radiant skin.
